Early years foundation stage

INTRODUCTION TO THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE MY LITTLE ANGELS DAY-CARE

The EYFS was seen as innovative and the first of its kind to bring together a single framework that all early years providers could follow. This meant that no matter where the child was cared for, their family could expect a standardised level of care.

The framework seeks to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It also aims to make sure that there is:

  • quality and consistency in all early years settings, so that every child makes good progress and no child gets left behind;
  • a secure foundation through learning and development opportunities which are planned around the needs and interests of each individual child and are assessed and reviewed regularly;
  • partnership working between practitioners and with parents and/or carers;
  • equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice, ensuring that every child is included and supported

There are four themes within the EYFS which underpin the working practice of early years staff, as well as 3 Prime and 4 Specific areas of development that practitioners must follow to help and support children’s learning:
